Mandi Bunga
Mandi Bunga was borne out of a traditional ritual I was raised with as a child. My nanny would prepare a bath on the mornings of birthdays, if you were feeling poorly, or on your first day of school. Later, when I was completely immersed into the business of flowers, I would send these bloom boxes to my loved ones in need of a little lift or luck and it has been my dearest wish to share my own practices of self care for some time now.
It is a very common tradition amongst Asians, the Siamese and the Straits Chinese, sometimes also called 'mandi siram' to routinely bathe with a variety of scented blooms, back in the day, picked from your garden. Into the bath water, there would be limes and a sprinkle of salt. One would do this before a momentous beginning like an impending marriage, or to celebrate milestones but I think it's a wonderful way to carve out some quiet time for yourself every week, to cleanse both the body and mind before a new day.
